Please be advised that we will never ask anyone seeking a grant from Warminster Lions Club to make any payment to secure a Lions grant. Anyone contacting you be telephone, by letter or online and offering a Lions grant in exchange for a fee or advance payment to secure a Lions grant is doing so fraudulently, and you should not proceed with the matter.
We raise money from the community and we donate 100% of our profit back to those suffering hardship and good causes. Approximately 90% is spent locally and around 10% goes to support worldwide disasters such as landslides, flooding, hurricanes and weather phenomena, but only if there is a Lions club to administer funds in the country affected. We try not to donate to National Charities unless there is a direct link to the residents of the BA12 area.
Locally we support schools with specific educational materials such as drug and alcohol awareness, healthy living and healthy eating programmes; we do this via our own Lions Lifeskills programme. We also support local children with learning difficulties, youth projects, student travel, and we have our own national competitions and leadership programmes. We also support the community via Social Services, Cornerstone, the local Churches and much more.
We support things like Measles eradication throughout the world where Lions Clubs International are partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, River Blindness eradication in South America, and we also support Third World Eye Camps for Cataract surgery and collect spectacles and hearing aids for the third world.
To do all this we have to raise money from the public, this is done through our very popular Bookshop in George Street and a few local events where we run our Cuddly Toy Tombola and our popular Pick & Mix sweet stalls.
We support Youth groups, the Elderly, the disabled and young people with learning difficulties. In conjunction with our District, we do an annual Lions coach trip to Paultons Park Theme Park near Southampton for young people with special needs.
We give support to our local Blue Light Services with our free of charge MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE scheme; this is mainly for people who live alone and elderly couples. It consists of a small plastic bottle with a form inside which has a photograph of the person, all medical details and information regarding contacts and pet information. This bottle is kept in a prominent position in the refrigerator. This is because in the case of fire the fridge is the last thing to be destroyed. There are two green stickers supplied, one to go on the inside of the front door and one to stick on the front of the fridge. When the police or a medic enters the property they will know by the Green sticker with a White cross on it to go straight to the fridge and get the information required when a person is unconscious. The Bottles are available Free from the Avenue Surgery and the Lions Bookshop in George Street.
The Warminster Club is very supportive of local young people and youth groups who need financial support for some of their projects. We help students when they have to raise the money for foreign travel and go to countries where they get involved with local projects and using their personal skills in schools etc. We donate to youth groups who take young people on outward bound programmes and projects within the UK. We support the Scouts and Guides where we have helped with the purchase of uniforms, equipment and sponsoring Guides who are selected to attend foreign events.
We are able to donate 100% of our profit to good causes because our administration and running costs are paid from our half yearly membership subscription.
