Warminster Lions Club – Raising Prostate Health Awareness
Warminster Lions Club has been active in the town since 1964, and this year is celebrating 60 years of serving the local community. Using funds raised by the club, primarily through the bookshop in George Street, a free Prostate Cancer Screening Day was organised as a community service project for its 60th year.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and the earlier it is detected then the sooner it can be treated. The Lions club linked with the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust (GFCT) who carried out the blood tests for local men aged 40-80 years old. 212 men were tested from Warminster & the surrounding area.
Warminster School generously provided the Thomas Arnold Hall as an ideal venue for the day, as well as refreshments throughout the screening event which took place on Saturday (6th April). Representatives from the recently started Prostate Cancer Support Café were also present, chatting to volunteers and attendees during the day.
17 Lions & volunteers took part in the day, working together to make the event successful and enjoyable. Warminster Lions Club is looking forward to being a part of more community events for the next 60 years.
